A New Year - New Happenings

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Thursday, December 31, 2009,
January is named for the Roman god Janus. Janus was two-faced so that he could look ahead in the new year and also look back at the previous year. Today is New Year's Eve. So much has occurred in 2009. The book Dulcimer X'ing was published. But now in 2010 the real work starts promoting the book and marketing to increase sales. Also in 2010 there will be book two Dulcimer Campfire. In addition I am working on a semi-memoir of my grandfather. I recently found a handwritten recipe book of my gr...

Working Today Will Bring Rewards Tomorrow

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Thursday, December 31, 2009,
The Holiday are so much fun yet when you are trying to market your self of your product it can be difficult. I have made several contacts concerning Homer but each person asked that I get back with them after the holidays as they are tied up with activities at this time of year. So while I wait for the new year to come so I can go out in full force and do marketing I am still going out and making contacts on a daily basis. What I do today will bare fruit tomorrow. If I do not do anything toda...

Christmas with Family

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Saturday, December 26, 2009,
Wha a wonderful Christmas day we had this year. We spent the day with family. We ate, drank and played together. The best part was that we were together. After pening presents and cleaning up the reality of the holiday sinks in? What now? Being able to share the day, the fun and the after is all part of it. I am hopefull as we wind down from the hustle and bustle of preparing for Christmas that we will take the spirit and meaning of this day and carry it into the new year and use it as a guid...

Facebook

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Tuesday, December 22, 2009,
Today I set up a facebook page for Homer the dulcimer. Now you can check out Homer through facebook and you can follow his activities. As part of the fun of expanding Homers' visability we are planning on making a game of Homer being on facebook. Check back to see what we develop for Homer and how following Homer might even get you a reward. I think this is going to be fun for both Homer and myself. We will see what progresses as we move forward. More to follow later on.

I made a contact today with a dulcimer teacher and player. I have been working hard on promoting Dulcimer X'ing. Anyway this person wants to read my book and has offered to do several reviews including one for the local paper where this person lists. Everyone has been so receptive towards my book. This is still another chapter in the road to mrket my book. I will continue to show the book wherever I can. I am looking forward to tomorrow to see where this process takes me next.

An Opportunity

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Wednesday, December 16, 2009,
I am working on a new marketing opportunity where I will be offering Dulcimer X'ing as a fundraiser to schools and daycare centers. I really want children to have the opportunity to learn about Homer. And where do you find children? Schools and daycare centers. So I want to be able to open these kids up to a new world where my characters are instruments and one instrument Homer is different and having trouble being excepted. I want the kids to have new experiences and I am hoping that by offe...

Book Party

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Sunday, December 13, 2009,
Today was the book party for the release of my new book. We held it Yalaha bakery. The bakery has a patio with an outdoor stage. They usually host music events on Saturdays. I invited a bunch of my dulcimer friends to come and jam. We played and talked for two hours. Visitors to the bakery would sit and eat lunch and listen to us playing. The bakey told me later that many patrons stayed around to listen to us playing. We sold a couple of books to people just visiting the bakery. One individua...

December 12th

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Sunday, December 13, 2009,
On December 12th, 1970, my wife and I were married. This year is our 39th wedding anniversary. First I want to wish my wife Happy Anniversary! We took the day off and went to Walt Disney World. We started out at Hollywood Studios and then took a boat to Epcot. From there we took the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. We went on some of our favorite rides including Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion. We also visited the revamped Hall of Presidents which is well worth the visit. We return...

One Day to Go

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Friday, December 11, 2009,
Tomorrow is the official release of my book Dulcimer X'ing. I am so excited. It has taken me a long time to get to this point. This journey started when the characters came to me. I sat down and they came alive as I typed them on the paper. Now several years later I have been able to start on this adventure with Homer and his friends. I cannot wait to see where he takes me next. I thank everyone who has supported me in this endeavor.

More Good News

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Wednesday, December 9, 2009,
My publishing company has been working on putting self publishers into the main bookstores. Barnes and Noble will be one of he main bookstores in which you will be able to order my book from. This will provide additional opportunities to market my book. The more places in which Dulcimer X'ing is available means the more places you have in which to purchase the book. I hope this will provide all of my dulcimer friends a better opportunity to make a purchase.

A Plain Jane Day

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Tuesday, December 8, 2009,
After the big day playing yesterday I kind of took today off. I did not do a whole lot where the book is concerned. Even though I did not do anything from a physical standpoint, in order to keep up with marketing I still mentally worked on where I want to go next with the book. I still have several stores I need to contact back to try to get the book plced. Then I want to start with my location in Leesburg and work out in all directions to find and approach gift shops that might be candidates...

A Cracker Christmas

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Monday, December 7, 2009,
Today I played with my friends at the Ft. Christmas Cracker Christmas. All together there was 12 of us playing. We played for over two hours. The audience was appreciative and someone even asked if we had a CD. It was good to get with other players from Central Florida. We have a tendency to play the same songs within our group but when you mix groups up you get to hear and play what others are playing. It was a good experience for everyone. We should be doing this again in March for a bluegr...

Additional Bookstores

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Sunday, December 6, 2009,
So much is happening. The book will soon be available at amazon.com and through my own e-store. Now the publishing company has signed a deal that will make the book available through the major bookstores. It will be a few weeks before all of the arrangements have been made but soon you will be able to go into the major bookstore and they can look it up in their catalog and order a copy of the book for you. Once everything is final I will add the information to my website with the additional b...

Rainy Day

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Saturday, December 5, 2009,
Rainy and cold day today. The rain started early this morning and never stopped. Then as the day wore on the temperature continued to drop. We were supposed to play this evening but due to the rain we had to cancel. We cannot complain. We needed the rain. We are going into our dry spell and we have already been placed on watering restrictions. This rain will help keep the water tables up a little longer. While we could not play for others tonight we still practiced as we have another engageme...

Practicing

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Friday, December 4, 2009,
I had a playing breakthrough today. During practice I was following the pattern of the music and I was able to anticipate whether the notes were going up or down the fretboard and if the notes were in sequence or if they skipped, i.e. doe, ray, mee, or doe, ray, faa. I could actually visualize where I needed to go as I was playing. Figuring something new our is very exciting. My playing continues to improve.

The Smell of Baking

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Thursday, December 3, 2009,
Tonight we are taking it a little easy. We are watching a Christmas special and baking cookies. The house smells so good. Tonigh we are making peanut butter cookies. Tomorrow we are going to make gingerbread cookies. We are going to make them in a dulcimer shape and plan on giving them at our next dulcimer meeting. I come to cooking naturally. My grandmother would start in September baking German Stollen and Anise cookies. We would ice the cookies and put them away in tins for Christmas. The ...

Letter of Introduction

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Wednesday, December 2, 2009,

Today I was working on more marketing strategies. How can I get my book into more stores? Well I came up with an idea to creat a letter of introduction that I can take to local stores as away to introduce my book and introduce Homer. It is a little glimpse of what Homer is all about. This is just going to be another tool in my arsenal. I know if I want it bad enough and I work hard enough I can make my book a success.

One More Day Closer

Posted by Dennis Waldrop on Tuesday, December 1, 2009,
Another day down and a day closer to the official publication of Dulcimer X'ing. Tomorrow is December 1st. The holidays are almost here and my book will be available at Amazon.com. Along with the book is a merchandise line featuring Homer the dulcimer. I have so much to be thankful for as the book comes out. I hope everyone comes to enjoy the adventures of Homer the dulcimer and takes the time to read it to their little ones.
