Tomorrow we are going to Lake Wales to support our friend Fletcher in the Lake Wales Relay for Life. RFL is a wonderful organization to become involved in. The support many individuals who have had cancer. Cancer is a horific disease that takes many lives prematurely. If we can help just one individual it is worth it. We will be bringing our dulcimers and hopefully provide some music to assist in this serious but festive event. I would encourage all of my readers to get involved in some organization. If not RFL then one of the other worthwhile organizations that always needs volunteers.

Did you know everyone is creative in their own way. Everyone has special talents. Sometimes they do not even know they have them. We can become so obsorbed in our daily lives that we fail to take a time out and explore other aspects of our mental capacity. Sometimes 'noise' metaphor for our daily lives gets in the way of us exploring. Maybe we are a good listener and friend, maybe we are a great volunteer, could be we are good with our hands. But you never know until you take a time out to fi...

I wrote a new tune while I was away for the weekend. After posting about the tune I received an offer to have the song put into Tabledit. It will be nice to see what the tune looks like once it is put into a proper musical format. While receiving the offer someone else wants to publish the tune in the monthly newsletter for dulcimer players. I have sent the information so I am looking forward to actually having the tune published somewhere. The tune is Hard Labor Creek and is named after the ...

I attended a wonderful weekend dulcimer event hosted by NGFDA at Hard Labor Creek State Park. It was two days of playing and learning. The guest teacher was Bing Futch. We learned a lot about music theory and a new song 'Texas'. It was good to see so many dulcimer players attend. During the weekend I wrote a new song that I named Hard Labor Creek. Hopefully I can get it up on youtube shortly. We also had a chance to showcase some of our arts and crafts that we are now selling. We had a lot of...

Ok, I guess this means we are getting serious in trying to make this website work! Today I designed and printed some new business cards that better reflect what we are morphing into - a place for Homer the Dulcimer - about Homer the Dulcimer - and about all of the additions Homer the Dulcimer is becoming involved in. We have listed book information but we also added about the arts and crafts we now offer. We used Book Store Etc. as our main catch phrase and built the rest of the business card...

Whew! Keeping up with a website is very hard work. It is important to keep the website relevant and for me a little whimsical. I have been adding and subtracting and moving and updating and rearranging and tweeking and etc. etc. etc. You get the idea I am working to making a website that you want to come visit and more importantly that you want to come back and visit over and over. I have a lot planned for the future and the website will be the focal point for distributing my plans and ideas....

We are continuing to grow our website. We are slowly venturing into new territory. We are making custom Comfort Bags to protect your mountain dulcimer as well as other instruments. We can also make bags to carry your mountain dulcimer tablature. Additionally I am learning how to make stain glass items and will be specializing in stain glass mountain dulcimers. To showcase our new items there is a new page on the website called Arts and Crafts. If you get a chance click on the page and see a c...

I was able to attend the dulcimer workshops taught by Della Ashton. We learned how to use I - IV - V to create chords when barring across all three strings. This was a great a-ha moment. This is one that I will use alot in the future. If anyone wants information on how this works let me know.

I played at the Apopka Foliage Festival at my company's booth. I played from around 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. I brought my dulcimer, my portable amp, and my stand. I set up at the front of the booth and started playing. I knew enough music that I did not have to bring out any of my tab. This was a great opportunity to let lots of people see the mountain dulcimer. I saw a lot of people looking my way when they walked by. Some even asked what I was playing and a couple even told me they know what it wa...

I can't believe it has been awhile since I have posted on my blog. So much has happened in the past several months. I was qquite ill in November and spent 12 days in the hospital over Thanksgiving. I became ill while attending the Dulcimer Retreat at White Springs, Florida. It has taken me awhile to recuperate and I am finally starting to feel 100% better. In February we attended the Mt. Dora Dulcimer and Autoharp festival. We acquired a wonderful new instrument called an Angel Wing Harp made...
